In a scene reminiscent of Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day thanks to Storm Amy, Captain Les led a merry band of his 16 golfing followers onto the leaf littered and broken branch strewn fairways of Tytherington for his final hurrah of the 2025 Season to compete for the absent(!) MellWood Memorial Shield, plus a very decent Winner's trophy donated by the Skipper himself.
In the trying conditions, in 3rd place with 29 points was John Chappo, just nudging out Charlie Fitz with a superior Back 9 score, whilst runner up on 30 points without a hair out of place thanks to a can of Falcon hairspray was Danny 'Dapper' Parr, however the Captain's Day Winner for 2025 was Robert Wadlow impersonator, and the Society colossussussuss (note to check spelling) was BFG, Jeff Burgessuss, scoring a towering 33 points. Excellent performance, well done Jeff!
NTPs were won by Robbie Hendo, Jeff, and 2 by John Chappo, including one which was maybe just 8" from an ace, but he comfortably made a deuce, and finally, the Captain's Draw was won by young Charlie Fitz with an excellent 18 points on the Front 9
The Captain's Day was a Goose-free zone, as she's got her wings folded back for the Winter in the company of SuperDad Colin Lewis.
Finally, a huge thanks to all for contributing a tidy sum on the day, towards the Captain's nominated charity, The North West Air Ambulance Charity, providing enhanced pre-hospital care to the most critically ill & injured patients across the North West, well done everyone.

Just a brief update on Les' Captain's Day at Tytherington on October 5th.
Bacon butties and coffee will be served at 9.00 and the first tee is at 10.04.
And Les has chosen the North West Air Ambulance as his Charity. Although there is no charge to Members for the day, please do give generously to our Skipper's very worthwhile Charity instead. Thanks one and all.
...and so to the 2025 Season Winners, and going into the final Event, both titles were pretty much settled, however, delivering the coop de gracie (that's French for kick in the nuts) the First Division title was taken by our brilliant Vice Captain, JR himself, Mr John Roche, with a runaway total of 146 points, 10 points ahead of an excellent 4 round best total of 136 points by Mark Mac. Congratulations to JR, and good luck for next Season as the Society Skipper!
The Second Division title was similarly won with equal comfort and with an even better final best of 4 Stableford scores totalling 150 points by the eternally young Bob Sneddon, what a succession of scores by young Mr Bob, finishing 10 points ahead of Runner-up, our Vice Skipper for 2026, Peter Batey (lovely boy!)
Individual Event Winners over the 2025 Season were:
Prestatyn - Captain Les, Withington - JR, Blundells Hill - Peter Batey, Mossock Hall - Paul Towers, Ashton-in-Makerfield - Bob Sneddon and Wirral - Robbie Hendo.
The Team Winners of the Final Event 9 Hole Texas Scramble were Ian Stevo, Peter Batey, Jeff Burgess & Robbie Hendo, whilst the 'Yellow Ball' Team Winners were Al Dennis, Colin Newall, Danny Parr & Jeff Burgess.

"What a difference a day makes, 24 little hours..." sang Dinah Washington very prophetically!
Whilst Saturday's deluge had everyone downloading ark construction plans, we were treated to a very sunny Sunday, with shorts and pigeon legs on show again, and with only a slight breeze, our decent Season finale turnout of 20 were given near perfect playing conditions.
As per our usual final full day out from the better halves, we had the always enjoyable and fun 9 hole morning Texas Scramble comp, followed by a very decent chips, butties, pie and salad lunch, before setting off again for the afternoon 18, incorporating the love/hate 'Yellow Ball' mini comp, with both of the Divisional titles waiting to be rubber stamped.
Following a good shower, change of togs, very tasty bite to eat, pints in hand, and computer glitches ironed out, the final scores on the doors were announced.
In 3rd place with a fabulous 40 points was the ever cool Chris Sullivan, and in 2nd place, with a brilliant 42 points was Bobby Dazzler Danny Parr, however the day's winner with the same score, but thanks to a superior back 9 score of 21 points was Rockin' Robbie Henderson, who made his score by shooting to par! An incredible achievement by 6 Handicapper Robbie, and probably the first time it's been done in the history of the Society! Well done Hendo, look out the First Division next Season!
Robbie's day just kept getting better as he bagged 2 NTPs, with Colin Newall taking the honour for a third, whilst the Captain's Draw for the best Random 6 score was won by Mr Ian Stevenson, sporting his new look thanks to a visit to Woof & Whiskers with an excellent 16 points.
And lastly but not leastly, the Winter destination for Gertie this year will be to an old favourite for her, as she's off to Casa Lewis, courtesy of a 23 points return by ever smiling Colin Lewis, still on his road back to fitness, but always ready to give it a go.
