A brilliant Captain's Day out at Wirral Golf Club rounded off the 2021 season on a mainly bright and breezy Autumnal day, on a course in great condition.
A solid turn out of 20 hardy swishers turned out to compete for the Mellwood Memorial Shield, plus the Captain's Day Trophy and a bottle of shampoo, and it was contested extremely closely with no fewer than 12 scores of 30 points or more!
In 3rd place on 35 points, thanks to a best back 9/back 6 countback over fellow overall scorers of 35 points, Gary Chapman, Andy Fitz and Les Hornby, was Chris Sullivan, whilst runner up on 36 points was Mark McNally (what a season he's had by the way!), but our 2021 Captain's Day winner on 37 points, was Mr. John Robinson. Well done to JR, a worthy winner and a true gent of the Society.
Gertie Goose wasn't on show as she's resident at Captain Dennis' pile for the Winter, but he still managed to shore up all the scores on 21 points in last position, but, using Captain's privilege, a goosey mug and miniature Malt was awarded to Ian Stevo for running just ahead of the departing skipper on 23 points.
20 Quid NTPs were also up for grabs and were won by Andy Miller, Toddy Hodson and Bob Stewart.
Finally, a massive vote of thanks to all for contributing a total of £265 towards the Captain's nominated charity, Jackson's Animal Rescue, a brilliant local organisation that uses every single contributed penny in rescuing and helping injured and abandoned wild and domestic animals and birds.

What a belter of a weekend at Hawkstone once again, brilliant company, non-stop craic and far, far too many alcofrolics, what memories!
Playing the Hawkstone course twice was a stroke of genius in this flogger's opinion, as it is such a beauty and the greens were absolutely mint. And apart from a few spits and spots of rain on Sunday morning, we were blessed with some fairly decent conditions too.
The usual massive round of thanks again go to John Doyle, John Chapman, Bob Stewart and Graham Donnelly for making all of the arrangements and organising yet another hugely successful weekend.
Well done to everyone who picked up the NTP winnings, and special mention for Andy Fitz who won the Saturday Stableford Comp and 'Fast' Eddie Murray and Graham Don for winning the Sunday Pairs Comp.
Where to in 2022? Who knows just yet, but get saving up the alcohol units and get your name down asap!
Ps A personal thank you from Captain Dennis to our incoming leader for 2022, Darren White for some very kind words and special gifts given out on Saturday evening too

Our final Event of the 2021 Season at the West Derby assault course, sorry golf course, was definitely a memorable one!
The weather behaved mostly following a bit of a soggy start with the usual Texas Scramble competition in the morning, followed by the afternoon 18, spiced up with the dreaded 'Yellow Ball' mini-competition, and of course the final push for the two Divisional titles which went down to the wire this year.
The Event day itself, however, was won by Mark McNally with an excellent nerve-holding 33 points, from Carl Ambrose with 32 points, who in turn squeaked ahead of Mark's newly acquired son-in-law, and close competitor for the Division 2 title, Colin Lewis, who also scored 32 points, but lost out to Carl on the back 9 count back
The three NTPs at £21 each were spread between Andy Miller, Peter Batey and player of the day, Mark McNally. There were also two 2s on the day going to Les Hornby and Andy Fitzpatrick.
And finally, that pesky plastic prize, Gertie the Goose, returned home with Captain Dennis, along with half a dozen 100% sh*tty golf balls, thanks to his returned score of 14 Points.
