As everyone will probably know by now the USGA and The R&A have introduced significant changes effective from 1st January 2019.
• The number of Rules have reduced from 34 to 24.
• The rules are written in modern and plain style and language
• A key driver of the changes is to increase pace of play.
For your information, here is a summary:
Search time - Reduced from five minutes to three minutes.
Ball moved during search - Replace with no penalty.
Embedded ball - Free relief anywhere through the green.
Measuring a drop - Use longest club (except putter).
Dropping - Drop from knee height rather than from shoulder height.
Taking stance on the wrong green is no longer allowed.
Ball unintentionally hits player or equipment - No penalty.
Double hit - No penalty; now counts as only one shot.
Touching sand in bunker other than immediately in front or behind the ball or on the back swing is now permitted.
Loose impediments can be removed anywhere including hazards.
Dropping a ball outside of a bunker - two penalty strokes.
Water hazards - Now called “Penalty Areas.”
Touching ground in penalty area - No penalty.
Ball moves on green after being marked - Replace without penalty.
Ball accidentally moved on putting green - Replace without penalty.
All damage to green can now be repaired.
Positioning a club for alignment is not permitted.
Caddie assisting with alignment is now not permitted.
Putting with flag stick in the hole is now permitted.
Ball wedged between the flag stick and the side of the hole is deemed as holed.
There is also a new OPTIONAL LOCAL rule for dropping a ball for Lost Ball or Out of Bounds, our Society will be using this.
I believe there are new Players Editions of the Rules of Golf with increased use of diagrams to explain the rules available in a lot of Clubs which might be worth getting hold of if you can, but in any case, please have a good read through in readiness for our first knock at Shaw Hill.
Right!
Here it is at last, our brand new sparkly 2019 website!
First things first, could everyone go to the Log in and click on the 'Forgot your Password' link, you will then be prompted to give the Email address which you have advised for contact.
Once you have typed this in, provided it is the same as the address you advised, you will then be asked to provide your own unique Password to access your own version of the Website, allowing you to indicate which Events you are attending.
Those with Administration rights will also be able to Edit the Website Content including the uploading of Results, Amendment of Handicaps, Allocation of Committee membership, Post News Items, Post and Update Events Information and so on.
Before the cries of Bandit!! start, 2019 Handicaps and Divisional promotions/relegations from the 2018 Season have not yet been finalised, but these will be updated prior to the first knock at Shaw Hill.
Hopefully there won't be too many teething problems, but if anyone has any issues, please email Alan Dennis and we'll sort through any problems.
In the meantime, have a play and give any Feedback through the WhatsApp Group or the above email
