Grange Park GC, 9th June 2024

Our rearranged date with the wonderful Grange Park finally arrived on a day of mixed weather conditions for our keen gathering of 18 power fading swishers.

Scoring was very healthy with 8 scores of over 30 points, resulting in plenty of smiles at the 19th hole, and in 3rd and 4th place on 33 points respectively were Danny Parr and John Chappo (Danny pipping JC to 3rd place thanks to the back 9 countback) and runner up was Bob Stewart on 35 points, maintaining his very solid start to the Season.

But, smashing it out of the park, finishing on top with his self professed "Best round of golf I've ever played!", scoring an immense Monsters Inc score of 39 points, was big Sully himself, Chris Sullivan. Well done Chris!!

NTPs were won by Danny Parr, Mark Roden, Colin Lewis and Fitzy the younger, and this Event's Captain's Draw cash prize went to Mr BS himself, Bob Stewart for scoring a very decent 19 points on the Back 9.

And finally, every Twitcher's favourite synthetic honker, Gertie was chauffeured home to roost at the home of the ever dependable Daz White, who's developing a very strong bond with our mascot these days, thanks to a magnificent return of 13 points.

Grange Park Event Rescheduled!!!

The Event at Grange Park has been officially rescheduled.

John’s been in touch with the Club and, once again, thanks due to the biblical rainfall, it is quite probable that the course will be closed.

Fortunately, John's been able to reschedule it for Sunday 9th June 2024 at 1.00 pm for a bite to eat and then 2.00 pm for the first tee.

Please advise whether you are still able to attend, if not click unattend and you'll be credited or refunded if preferred. Also, if you weren't available for this Sunday but would be for the revised date, then please click attend and make payment as per usual.

Houghwood GC, 28th April 2024

After a false start at Chester, the season finally got underway at Houghwood! Our group of 19 hardy hopefuls were all hoping to blow the golfing cobwebs away, lessons and practice sessions were in the bag, and higher Handicaps all gave an air of great optimism to the proceedings, scores in the mid 40s were surely possible weren't they?

Houghwood, or should it be Toughwood, had other ideas! It's a very hilly course, there was a strong breeze and it was quite chilly too, all factors contributing to a difficult starter for all and so scoring ended up being extremely modest to say the least!

Just 14 points covered all returns, but as anyone who's seen Highlander knows..."There can only be one!" and the Houghwood Highlander with a score of 31 points clutching his bulging ball sack was Mr John Roche! Brilliant stuff, well done John!!

NTPs were won by Mike Towell, star man John Roche and winning two NTPs in his short pants, Peter Batey (God love him, he doesn't half make his Dad proud), and this Event's Captain's Draw cash prize went to the man who could do no wrong on the day, JR, for scoring a very decent 19 points on the Front 9. 2s were also scored by Mike Towell, Gary 'Wig' Chappo and my lad, young Mr. Batey.

And finally, thanks to all those hundreds of balls whacked on the range and watching countless hours of YouTube tutorials, with a score of 17 points (maybe they were snooker videos?), our moulded mascot was presented to a triumphant Mr. Danny Parr.

Rearranged Events

FIXTURE REARRANGEMENTS

Dear all, Mr Doyle has performed nothing short of a miracle to reorganise the Season and keep us with 6 Events.

CHESTER

Chester has been rearranged for Sunday 22nd September 2024 and will now be our Season finale Event, the usual all dayer of Texas Scramble, 18 holes pm, evening meal and presentations.

The cost is slightly higher than Wrexham unfortunately, but we think it’s a small price to pay extra to save the Season. It will be £92 for the full day.

WREXHAM

The Wrexham Event date remains the same, ie Sunday 11th August, but it will revert to being a usual 18 hole Event @ the usual £50. They have put their prices up significantly, but Mr Doyle has negotiated them down to £51.50, however, the Society will handle the shortfall this time.

CHESTER PAYMENTS

Payments received for this Sunday’s cancelled Event at Chester will be credited and paid against your next attended Event. I’ll keep a record of everyone’s credits.

Some have in fact even already paid for Houghwood, and in that case I’ll roll your credit forward again.

We trust everyone will be ok with all of the above, a massive vote of thanks goes to John for sorting this, he does a massive amount of work behind the scenes which deserves a big round of applause!
