Antrobus GC, 21st August 2022

The 2022 Season finale was spent by our happy band of 17 at Antrobus on a lovely sunny Summer's day!

The morning Texas Scramble competition was followed by the afternoon 18, which also included everyone's favourite mini comp, the old 'Yellow Ball' curse, everything being spiced up by the last chance run at the Divisional titles and the inaugural Pairs comp (sponsored by Merseyside Plant Hire, the one stop shop for all your power tool needs! ...so Stevo tells me)

The Event day itself was won by Shaun Johnston with a monumental 41 points, leaving Colin Lewis in his wake on 39 points, with Jeff Burgess, John Doyle and Danny Parr joint third on 33 points.

Two of the NTPs were won by Chris Sullivan with player of the day, Shaun Johnston, pocketing the other.

And finally, our beloved Goose, Gertie, went home to spend Autumn and Winter in Stevo's gaff, melting slowly in front of his new log burner, thanks to his 23 points with a slightly worse back 9 than Captain Daz on the same score!

Wrexham GC, 31st July 2022

Wonderful Wrexham came to our rescue when our date at Haydock Park fell through, but there were no complaints from any of our solid band of 19 swingers, as the course was in excellent nick again.

The slick greens and the breezy conditions kept the scores a bit lower than our last visit, with three tied for second spot on 28 points, Shaun Johnston, Danny Parr and Alan Dennis, but our winner on the day with a very creditable 31 points was Les Hornby. Well done Les, da iawn!

NTPs were won by Colin Newell, Bob Stewart and guest, Peter Cunningham. Nice one boys.

And finally, a controversial decision was heartily endorsed by Father-in-Law of the year and second last placed Mark McNally (16 points!) to award Gertie Goose to poor Colin Lewis, who retired after the 6th hole with back problems, having accumulated just 9 points.

Venue Change for Haydock GC Event

Just to confirm to all, the next Event on Sunday July 31st has been changed from Haydock GC to Wrexham GC, due to Haydock's policy change of no Societies on a weekend, which they had forgotten to advise us about!

Thankfully, our brilliant Secretary, Doyley has rearranged the event to the amazing Wrexham GC, which we enjoyed to a man earlier in the year.

Check the details on the Events page, but to confirm please arrive by 9.00 for a bacon buttie and organising the draw, etc, with first tee at 10.00.

Pryors Hayes GC, 26th June 2022

A bright and blustery day greeted our group of 13 swishers at Pryors Hayes GC, injuries and holidays having reduced our usual numbers, but enthusiasm more than made up for this (hopefully) one-off hiccup to attendance.

Despite the wind and the greens being a little hard after the recent dry spell, the experience was very positive and over half of our group returned scores in the 30s!

So to the results, in joint third place with 33 points were Danny Parr, Ian Stevo and Alan Dennis, whilst tied on top with 35 points, were Shaun Johnston and Andy Fitz. But with a superior back 9 score, our winner, with a brilliant bounce-back after taking home the Goose last time out at Wrexham, was Vice-Skipper Andy Fitz. Well in Fitzy!

Meantime, 2 out of 3 NTPs were won by on fire Ian Stevo, so hopefully he can pay to sort out his dodgy boiler...and he also converted both as 2s, whilst Shaun Johnston scooped the third. Alan Dennis also made a 2 on the third hole. Well done one and all!

And finally, propping up the scores with 16 points, his duck was finally broken by our beloved plastic fantastic goose, as our wonderful Skipper Daz, took her home for the first time ever!
